Beyond the ‘Arab Spring’

20.2.2015-31.5.2015 | Humanity House, The Hague

Exactly four years after the start of the Arab Spring, for the first time in the Netherlands we can view the new exhibition Stories of Change – Beyond the ‘Arab Spring’. Photographers and multimedia authors give a revealing and intimate glimpse into daily life in five North African societies.

The exhibition consists of special photo and video stories from Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia, as seen through the eyes of a group of local photographers. All trained in the Reporting Change training program implemented by World Press Photo Academy. The goal of the project was to create a community of strong, professional and independent photographers and journalists and with them show the changes in the Arab world from the inside.

The exhibition consists of twelve stories presented in a combination of photography and multimedia projections. What has revolutionized the different countries? What does it mean for people’s lives and the problems they know the day today? The narrative perspective challenges imagination of the visitors and provides new, surprising insights into the North African region after the Arab Spring. Insights that go beyond the headlines on television and the headlines in the newspaper.
